I am a writer and editor living in Amador County, California. Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, I now live in the same Sierra Nevada foothill town where my Serbian, Italian, and Irish ancestors settled five generations ago. Amador County has always been the place I consider my home, but it wasn’t until 2001 that I was able to move here as a permanent resident.
In addition to my four-year stint as a high school English teacher, I’ve written for newspapers, radio and an occasional magazine, and worked in website content extensively. I am a contributor (for fun) to the online magazine, Life as a Human. For the last five or so years, my professional work has focused on technical writing and editing, across many industries, including electronics manufacturing, publishing, food & wine, health & fitness, healthcare (hospice), and hospitality. Additionally, I enjoy working with students on college entrance and graduate school essays.
Personal projects currently underway include a memoir, 13 to 33, which chronicles 20 years of my life that continue to nauseate and intrigue me. My food blog, Amador Food & Review, publishes on Facebook, and occasionally at Life as a Human. Not a traditional thumbs up/thumbs down review blog, my posts simply serve to let people know when I find a restaurant that’s getting things mostly right in and around my home base of Amador County, as well as brag about my own culinary achievements, shortcuts and epiphanies. My interest in food is rooted in my 15 years in the food/restaurant industry, where I worked all positions in the front and back of the house, managed, and even owned an establishment for a brief moment in time. Cooking is also a passion of mine and I don’t suck.
Check out my funny blog, Surreal Housewife, which serves as a testimonial of my ascension from desperate single housewife to maternal sciences engineer, and beyond.
